Diagnosed 4 years ago, and sliding down the ladder
I have found pushing a little bit each day with exercise helps me feel better. I just joined the group and was just diagnosed, (about 3 months ago) with moderate COPD. Sucks doesn't it?
Valerian Root or Theanine...they are natural herbal supplements that work great for anxiety. Especially Valerian Root! Also, meditation works wonders for helping with anxiety! If you are already on meds, speak with your doctor or pharmacist first to make sure that you can take these supplements with your meds. I have COPD and take both supplements and LOVE them!!
my recent ( 1 month ago) PFT has shown a marked decrease in lung function. Am at the severe end of stage 3 and do the things i am asked and advised to do and have little relief. I have also recently been diagnosed with myeloproliferative disorder aka Erythrocytosis ( I make too many red blood cells) and the hematologist basically told me to come back in 6 months sooner if my rbc goes above my current levels, and they MIGHT try something.
I have 18% of my lung capacity left. I use Spiriva, Advair and a rescue inhaler. It is difficult a lot of times but I do the breathing exercises, and use oxygen. I still work a part time job, I work at a computer all day. There are times when I feel depressed because it is so hard to breathe, my doctor has asked me to consider looking at a lung transplan, but don't know if I want to go through all of thatl. Does anyone have any advice on lung transplants?
I really dont have any ideas. I dont have COPD but both my parents do. My mom is in stage 4 - unsure of my Dad. My Dad is just like you. Sometimes his anxiety gets so bad which causes his breathing to get worse. He is now almost 100% agoraphobic. Getting him to his appts are hard and that is about the only thing he leaves the house for. A few years ago we went on a road trip and stopped at a convenient store. He had an anxiety attack and his breathing got so bad he wet himself in the store. He was so embarassed and felt so ashamed Although i dont know what you feel ... i feel for you because i see your situation everyday. Wish i had i had some ideas for you.
